Portrait cut stones present a unique opportunity- not only do they add color and sparkle to a ring like a regular gemstone, their frame-like quality and translucency offers the chance to highlight a special hidden message. On this ring, I purposefully kept the under band (something I would normally saw off so it wasn’t visible under a translucent stone) and asked Jaime, my engraver, if he would be able to engrave a letter or number or symbol there. When he said yes, I knew this could really be something personal for someone. So this portrait cut sapphire becomes the tinted glass through which you can gaze at the bright cut reminder of your choosing.
